Something exciting is taking shape across Greater Houston.
From Tomball to Richmond and throughout the Houston metro area, private schools are preparing for a new era of scholarship opportunities—and a growing number are choosing Legacy Deo SGO to help them get ready.
Seven Houston-area Christian schools have already signed agreements to partner with Legacy Deo SGO:
- Westlake Lutheran Academy
- Lutheran South Academy
- Salem Lutheran School
- Houston Christian High School
- St. Mark Lutheran School
- Epiphany Lutheran School
- Concordia Lutheran High School (Tomball)
They represent different communities, different school families, and different parts of the Houston area. But they all share an important goal: preparing now to make the most of the new Education Freedom Tax Credit and the scholarship opportunities it can create for students beginning in 2027.
And the list continues to grow.
A New Opportunity for Christian Education
The Education Freedom Tax Credit creates a powerful new way for individuals to support K-12 education.
Beginning in 2027, individual taxpayers will be able to receive a federal income tax credit up to $1,700 for qualifying contributions to Scholarship Granting Organizations, or SGOs. Those contributions can then be used to provide scholarships for eligible students and qualified educational expenses, including private-school tuition.
For Christian schools, the potential impact goes far beyond the tax credit itself.
It could mean helping a family who has always wanted a Christian education for their children but wondered whether they could afford it. It could mean helping a current student remain in the school their family loves.
And it could give generous donors a new way to make a tangible difference in the lives of students.
Seven Houston-Area Schools—and Growing
The growing group of Houston-area partners reflects the excitement Legacy Deo is hearing from Christian schools throughout Texas.
Westlake Lutheran Academy and Lutheran South Academy are part of the Lutheran Education Association of Houston (LEAH). They are joined by Salem Lutheran School, Houston Christian High School, St. Mark Lutheran School, Epiphany Lutheran School, and Concordia Lutheran High School (Tomball).
Together, these seven schools provide an early glimpse of what is becoming a much larger network of Christian and private schools using the Education Freedom Tax Credit to expand scholarship opportunities for families.
Each partnership also reflects something Legacy Deo believes will be essential to the program's success: preparation.
Schools need to understand how the new opportunity works. Donors need clear information about how they can participate. Families need to understand what scholarships may become available. And schools need a Scholarship Granting Organization they can trust to help connect all of those pieces.
That’s precisely the role Legacy Deo is preparing to fill.
A Partner Schools Can Trust
Scott Fogo, CEO of the Lutheran Education Association of Houston, saw the possibilities of the Education Freedom Tax Credit early on.
LEAH already provides approximately $3.6 million in financial aid, making tuition assistance one of its largest expenses outside faculty salaries. Fogo knows firsthand that many families want Christian education but struggle to make the numbers work.
That's one reason he described the new scholarship opportunity as “a dream come true.”
Just as important, however, was deciding who could help LEAH navigate that opportunity.
For Fogo, that wasn't much of a search.
“I’m really happy that Legacy Deo stepped forward to establish a Scholarship Granting Organization,” he said. “I wouldn’t have known who to go with if they hadn’t.”
That confidence reflects what Legacy Deo hopes to bring to every school partnership: not simply scholarship administration, but experience, integrity, personal service, and a shared commitment to expanding Christian education.
Legacy Deo has spent years working alongside Christian schools, churches, ministries, donors, and families. The SGO provides another way to put that experience to work—helping schools prepare for an opportunity that could have a lasting impact on their students.
More Families Saying “Yes”
Ultimately, the excitement surrounding the Education Freedom Tax Credit isn't about tax policy.
It's about possibilities.
More scholarship dollars can mean more families discovering that Christian education may be within reach. More donors can become directly involved in opening doors for students. And more schools can have another resource to help fulfill their mission without family finances being the deciding factor.
That’s what makes the growing momentum in Houston worth celebrating. Seven schools have already taken the step of partnering with Legacy Deo. More conversations are happening across the state. And with the Education Freedom Tax Credit launching in 2027, Christian schools still have time to learn, prepare, and become part of this growing movement.
Legacy Deo is grateful to be standing alongside Christian schools across Greater Houston and Texas as they prepare to turn this new opportunity into something very real: more scholarships, more opportunities and more families able to say “yes” to Christian education.
